Ice Time

Our pre-starskate program is for those skaters who show an interest in continuing their figure skating journey after CanSkate and have been invited by our coaches once skaters have completed specific CanSkate skills. 

Skaters will have the opportunity to build confidence in their figure skating skills while earning the remainder of their CanSkate ribbons and badges. Skaters will be taught in small group sessions. Skaters are also encouraged to learn independence and will be provided guidance from coaches. 

Moving to StarSkate from CanSkate can be very intimidating for some skaters so this program allows skaters to ease into it. 

Our Pre-Star and StarSkaters will skate together on Fridays. Pre-Star will also have a 15 min stroking class with StarSkate on Mon and Wed between 5:15 and 5:30.

Figure skates are required in this program as they are essential for learning specific skills and improving their abilities as a figure skater. Skaters are also required to follow our ice etiquette shown below

ICE ETIQUETTE

·         Be on time for practice

·         No gum

·         No jeans or wide-leg pants

·         Skate laces must be tucked in or covered.

·         Continuous movement while on the ice, and to get up promptly after a fall to keep pathways clear for other skaters

·         Give the right of way to those skaters whose music is playing and to those who are in lessons

·         Show respect to your coach and fellow skaters on and off the ice. Bullying in any form will not be tolerated. Any witness of disrespectful behaviour is to be reported to the coach

·         The coach has a right to remove any skater who is disrespectful from an on-ice session

·         Hair tied back

·         No bulky clothing or mittens, avoid wearing toques unless absolutely necessary. 

·         Be aware of your surroundings while on the ice

·         Have a goal in mind that you would like to accomplish at each practice

·         Do a warm-up before getting on the ice

·         Keep bathroom breaks to a minimum. Your ice time is very valuable!

·         Coaches will inform skaters when they are ready for assessments and will coordinate dates and times with skaters and parents.
